Etherness is very much a factor as I age, especially as I come home from the funeral of a sister-in-law, and we found ourselves the ones aging at the front of the family, walking toward death.

The performance of La Voix Humaine was extraordinary, and I may have to write about its themes of perceived control in art and life. Thank you for posting it, and I'm curious how it is impacting you?

I first heard about her on CBC Radio, regarding the news about the Polar Prize, and I thought to myself, "how, especially as a Canadian, have I never heard of this woman!" She sounded fascinating. As soon as I had the opportunity I looked her up, as well as La Voix Humaine. Talk about captivating.

I could also write more about this (putting a few lines here hardly felt like doing it justice!) I think I'm still processing the impacts that her performance has had on me. The freedom with which she has allowed herself to pursue this blending of various crafts felt like a call for me to step more confidently into the artistic space. As she says in the documentary, "What will this inspire in them?"

There is also the aspect of discovering something so unique and inventive in the 21st century. Her art and performance feels Inspired, in the divine context, as though she's a vehicle for something much greater than her. But she first needed to be open to the possibilities. It's like she opened a portal into another dimension altogether. This has stuck with me.

I also appreciated her "down-to-earthness" in the interview portions; this adds this whole dimension of her humanity amidst her genius and artistry.

Lastly, you are so eloquent in how you communicate about these things; I do hope you write about it!

It’s fun browsing his dictionary. I bought a hardcover copy, but the words are online, too! https://www.thedictionaryofobscuresorrows.com/words

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Laurel. I would love to read about your childhood growing up before electricity arrived! I can only imagine. In "The case for curiosity in a high-speed world" I wrote about growing up before the Internet. I can only imagine life without electricity, safe for my experiences on multi-day backcountry trips, which honestly are quite blissful. I hope you write about it, and please let me know if you do!
