Remembering the good! ✨ Highlights from the year I never (thought I) wanted.
Plus: My fav podcast these days (it's all about rejection!)
I see it everywhere these days and I’ve said it myself: “2020 is almost behind us” or “I can’t wait to flip the calendar to 2021.” (I also recently saw another: “2020, don’t let the door hit you on the way out!”) 🤣 And while I said in my last entry that I wouldn’t be reflecting on 2020, I realized it would be a shame to leave the good behind with the bad.
I usually finish my year with a “highlights” list, so why should this year be any different?
I’m not going to dwell on the stress, frustrations and challenges of 2020. But I can pick out the moments that brought me joy, fulfillment and meaning. As we wrap up this year, I hope you’ll be able to find time to do the same.
Just a few from my list:
Sneaking in a trip to Mexico in February. 😊
Getting Volume 5 of the Canadian Rockies Annual out in time for our usual May 1 publication.
Collaborating with the talented Tay Odynski on The Wonders That I Find (read: putting together a children's book while almost 100% socially distanced!). 🎨

Many outdoor adventures into the backcountry, including a mom/daughter trip, a nighttime ascent of Mt. Temple, a trip with friends into Egypt Lakes, and numerous exploratory outings with Paul as our weekly date.
Meaningful connections with other writers through interviews with authors like Bruce Kirkby (Blue Sky Kingdom) and Margo Talbot (All That Glitters), my Waypoints program, as well as joining the Scribe Coached Author program.
Celebrating Maya’s 7th and Léa’s 2nd birthdays, as well as our 10-year wedding anniversary.
A full-on website refresh.
Seeing just how resilient we all are.
And… completing a draft of my travel memoir. 🙌
Whew!
It turns out, there are flowers growing amongst the weeds.
What made your list this year? I’d love to hear about it, so feel free to comment or send me the link to a post you wrote elsewhere!
I look forward to seeing you all here in the New Year. Here’s to a bright and hopeful future,
Meghan

What’s caught my attention lately… ✨
I’ve shared this one on my newsletter before, but I am continually inspired by a podcast called We Regret to Inform You – “fascinating stories of successful people who triumphed over debilitating career rejection.” Each episode closes with lessons we can take away from each person’s story. Makes me never want to give up!
Check these out too… 🙌
