Here we are for round two of this special series as I explore time constraints. I recently found myself returning to the lessons in Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. If you haven’t read this book before, you might be thrown off by the title. It’s really not a how-to: the author’s main point is we’re fooling ourselves if we think we can actually manage our time. As Burkeman puts it:
“The real problem isn’t our limited time. The real problem… is that we’ve unwittingly inherited, and feel pressured to live by, a troublesome set of ideas about how to use our limited time, all of which are pretty much guaranteed to make things worse.”
This book created a genuine shift in my mindset, so I was happy it came to mind as I’ve been exploring the power of time constraints in my life. I’m recognizing that I can have all the systems in the world, but they won’t solve the underlying issues.
