Dear Ones —
Humans are funny. We hear something—something that will make our lives better— and we think Aha! That’s the key! And we jump on board with whatever this new thing is. We might even have a breakthrough.
And then…
Some crisis happens. We’re knocked out of our routines. Maybe we face a stretch of illness or injury. And it all comes crashing down.
When we finally decide to roll up our pant legs and wade into the deep end—that seemingly endless pool of ‘work’ we need to do to get out of whatever slump or jam we’re in—we come across some new insights. And we say, Aha! That’s the key!
It’s not just me, is it? 😏
This tells me that humans are a bit broken. But it also shows me just how dynamic life is. That new stages involve new solutions. That our job is to be stretchy and adaptive. To live in the present and embrace what’s working for us right now.
Still, when I broke my toe over the holidays and came down with sickness just after, I couldn’t help but feel that I’d lost all momentum. That boulder I was pushing? It just rolled right past me on its way back downhill.
I wallowed. I languished. I felt genuinely bummed.
