Dear Ones โ
I am taking a break from my book manuscript to type this update for you. The 356-page document sits on the right-hand side of my desk. The printed copy has over 2,000 edits that need to be made in the digital copy. These are edits to dialogue, edits for clarity and lots of striking out of sentences that seem superfluous when I read them on the printed page. This is all being done before the document is then updated according to my publisherโs style (Chicago Style for any of my fellow writing geeks out there). Iโm looking up things like how to format em-dashes, serial commas and more. It all feels very, very tedious.
Yet itโs a good distraction from the bigger picture, which is that Iโm about to put my story out into the world. With a year-long delay. Once I submit it will take 11 months before my book appears in print, on shelves. How will I feel about the book at that point? Great question. ๐
