Dear Ones β€”

The water shimmered with a pale hue of turquoise, white sand beneath swirling as the waves moved to shore. The water seemed almost iridescent as it approached, showcasing various shades of blue, green and white. Cresting. Tumbling. Sweeping up sand, then retreating once more.

Another wave flattening on the shore, retreating back into the blue.

Over and over. It’s both mesmerizing and slightly maddening if you fixate on the repetition, the sense that the process is never, ever complete. Or, perhaps, that’s what makes it so beautiful.

I’m describing the water near Playa de Arena Blanca (White Sands Beach, how fitting) during my walk up the beach with my oldest daughter the other day. We walked nearly four kilometres before turning around and heading back to our apartment, but not without first taking a dip and snorkelling in the sea.
