Dear Ones —

Yesterday was a whirlwind.

As someone who tries to have a healthy relationship with expectations, I chose not to expect anything when I launched my book cover. Book covers can be a sensitive topic for writers. They often come with great anticipation, for all involved. They need to be just right, and not all people will like the final product. They are primarily used for marketing, which means (scarily enough) they can make or break book sales. It’s that simple, and that vulnerable.

On the creative/artistic side, a book cover needs to embody the contents of the book and evoke inspiration. It’s not something I took lightly in the process of writing Lights to Guide Me Home. I cared a great deal about this book cover and how it would turn out. Thankfully, my publisher asked for my input all the way along until we landed on something we all thought was up to the task.

This was several weeks in the process, and then one day I finally saw the cover appear on my publisher’s website…
